Connecting the Dots Between Hunger, Sleep Deprivation, & Your Goals

I hear ya,

YOU are tired. 

YOU are hungry.

And on top of those, you are trying to lose weight, too?

The reality is, that most of us are barely functioning day to day feeling tired and hungry, but not understanding that those two triggers, may be connected, and ultimately hindering our weight loss.

In my opinion, that is the only adult combo more terrifying than a sugared-up toddler with a sharpie. Ya, feel me?

Due to fatigue, exhaustion, and hormone disruption, sleep-deprived individuals are likely to feel hungry and have increased cravings. Do you ever wake up feeling like a truck hit you, then shortly after, walk right into the kitchen and start binge eating or have frequent snacking between meals?

Sleepless nights typically result in overeating and not feeling satisfied due to hormones, like the release of extra cortisol — the dreaded stress hormone — which can stimulate hunger. Pair this with hormone imbalances of leptin and ghrelin? Ghrelin, which is produced in the stomach and pancreas, stimulates appetite and promotes fat retention, while leptin, produced in the fat cells, sends a cue to the ‘ol brain when they are satisfied and ultimately, full. Now because you are not prioritizing sleep, you are now repaying yourself with a full day of hunger havoc because no matter what you eat, you may not feel satisfied.

What I would’ve given to connect the dots years ago. But don’t get me wrong, sleepless nights are not always unavoidable. But I can assure you, reprioritizing sleep will benefit you deeply! Your goals too!
