The Power of Protein!

If you are new to your health journey or a seasoned FASTer Way Client, we all need to be reminded why protein is so important in our nutrition plan. Let’s start with the basics and why our bodies need protein to survive and thrive.

What is protein? Proteins are the building blocks of life. Every cell in the human body contains protein. The basic structure of protein is a chain of amino acids. You need protein in your diet to help your body repair cells and make new ones. medlineplus.com

Why do we need protein? There are endless reasons why we need protein, so I am just going to touch on a few here today.

  1. Protein helps us build muscle, maintain strong healthy bones, and is the main component of our hair and nails!

  2. We use protein to help build and repair tissue. Protein is key to changing your body composition. Protein helps build lean, calorie-burning muscle which helps to burn more fat and aids your body in replacing worn out cells and muscle repair.

  3. Protein helps our bodies create antibodies to help fight infections.


Many women struggle to meet their protein goals daily. As we age protein is a critical macronutrient to help maintain the muscle we have. When we consume the right amount of protein we help to prevent muscle loss, and instead continue to build lean muscle.

My go to protein sources are chicken, fish, lean grass fed meat, and eggs. You can also get protein from vegetarian sources like nuts, seeds, and legumes. One of my favorite tricks is to ask for double the protein when I am out for lunch or dinner. Bring on that extra grilled chicken! I also LOVE to meat prep for the week so I have plenty of options at the ready when I open my fridge!


One of the easiest way I boost my protein intake is through a smoothie! They are easy to throw together and I can take them on the go, which is a time saver for me! There are so many different ways to build a smoothie and here are a few of my favorite, easy recipes:
